I am currently working on my PhD Aesthetic Formations of the Social: Contemporary Styles of Popular Sufism in Beirut. In my study I ask how subject positions are produced within a culture of Sufism and in relation to social transformations. The interdisciplinary approach pursued is based on the observation of larger entangled developments, the aesthetization of social life and the global presence of religion, both of which are analyzed in the frame of late or post-Modernity.
