Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • 1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in comments to the editors).
    2. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines
    3. The document contains abstract, bio statement and keywords.
    4. All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
    5. When submitting fill in comments for editors: "open peer-review" or "double blind peer-review"

Author Guidelines

META operates through an online system for the submission and review of manuscripts. Please submit all contributions online. Before sending in your contribution, please ensure that the following guidelines for submissions have been followed. Doing so helps us reduce workloads and turnaround periods for your contribution.

There are no submission or author processing charges.

META's style sheet follows the guidelines of MLA style (8th edition, 2016) with certain modifications.
Note for contributors and style guide

META follows IJMES Transliteration System for Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, and Modern Turkish. For Persian, the transliteration is in reference to Iranian Studies.

Publication process

STEP 1: Hand in your abstract until the date stated in the CfP via email and wait for a notification of the issue editors.

STEP 2: If your abstract has been accepted by the issue editors, please, register with our system https://meta-journal.net/user/register and submit your full article including abstract, bio statement and keywords: https://meta-journal.net/submission/wizard Please, use the current MLA version for citing and referencing.

STEP 3: Peer-review process: please indicate if you want to stay anonymous vis-à-vis your reviewers or not.

STEP 4: After the review process you will receive suggestions from the referees for further improvement of your article. Please, consider the suggestions and upload the edited version including abstract, bio statement and keywords: https://meta-journal.net/submissions

STEP 5: Copyeditors will check linguistic and formal accuracy. After our first check, we upload a new document with further recommendations under COPY EDITING.

STEP 6: Download the document from Step 5, accept the changes, and, if required, provide missing information. Upload the edited document in your account under COPY EDITING.

STEP 7: Copyeditors and graphic designers prepare a galley proof which will be presented to you in the first week of May or October. In this week, you will have the last chance to apply for minor changes.

STEP 8: Publication.

Registration and submission

  • Please go to the https://meta-journal.net/user/register
  • Register on the site first, fill out your profile details and select ‘register as author’.
  • After you have successfully registered, you will see in your User Home menu the option ‘new submission’
  • Click on ‘new submission’ and the system will take you through the entire submission process
  • Once the submission is completed, you will receive a confirmation email.

Privacy Statement


The data collected from registered and non-registered users of this journal falls within the scope of the standard functioning of peer-reviewed journals. It includes information that makes communication possible for the editorial process; it is used to inform readers about the authorship and editing of content; it enables collecting aggregated data on readership behaviors, as well as tracking geopolitical and social elements of scholarly communication.

This journal’s editorial team uses this data to guide its work in publishing and improving this journal. Data that will assist in developing this publishing platform may be shared with its developer Public Knowledge Project in an anonymized and aggregated form, with appropriate exceptions such as article metrics. The data will not be sold by this journal or PKP, nor will it be used for purposes other than those stated here. The authors published in this journal are responsible for the human subject data that figures in the research reported here.

The website of the Middle East – Topics and Arguments Journal uses the analysis software Piwik, with which user queries can be analyzed statistically.
